I wish to see elephants in their natural habitat

Sofia Rose fought a battle against leukemia. She underwent chemotherapy treatments and the impact on her immune system forced her to stop attending school. When our wish granters met Sofia Rose, they met an enthusiastic young girl, who told them that she loved ballet, biking and gymnastics. She also loves animals and is particularly fond of elephants, which she dreamed of seeing in their natural habitat.

So the Make-A-Wish Quebec team looked for a place where elephants live in their natural habitat, where Sofia Rose could see them up close. This is how the young girl and her family flew to Thailand and set foot in Bangkok on December 28! This was the beginning of an adventure that included a cruise on the Chao Phraya River, a cooking class where they learned to cook Thai dishes and, the highlight of the trip, a visit to an elephant sanctuary! At the sanctuary, Sofia Rose was able to see several elephants and had the opportunity to feed one of them and give them a shower! The family then enjoyed the city for a few days before flying back to Montreal.

The wish experience allowed Sofia Rose to experience moments of pure happiness after so many challenges and treatments. Her mother told us that thinking of her wish was a great help to her daughter when she was undergoing treatment. Looking forward to this beautiful experience gave her motivation in times when it was difficult to imagine the end of this battle with the illness. She also said that this experience has brought her family closer together.

A big thank you to StrikeOut Cancer who made this wish possible through the Adopt-A-Wish program! We would also like to thank Make-A-Wish Thailand, Park’N Fly, TuGo, Sony Canada Charitable Foundation and all those who helped to grant Sofia Rose's wish.
